Rooftop & Vertical Farming
We have developed a technology using recycled plastic panels and beams to construct structures for vertical farming. This method allows planting 180 plants ina single square meter compared to just 20 plants on a square meter of horizontal surface.
The Vertical Farming using 100% recycled plastics idea was developed in 2017 and researched and implemented at AUB. A short video entitled Beirut Planting Roofs outlining the project is shown below.
Vertical Planter for commercial farming:
Weight: 121 kgs of recycled plastics equivalent approx. to 18,513 plastic bags diverted from Landfill.
L: 235 cm - W: 40cm - H: 110cm
Capacity: 187 plants
Planting Media Volume: 0.90475 cbm (300 Liters red soil | 300 Liters Compost | 300 Liters Mulch)
Holds 50% compost = 79kgs compost derived from 144 Kgs of food waste
You can plant: All kinds of lettuces, cauliflower, broccoli, zaatar, strawberries, basil and ALL edible herbs.
